Watermark photos for Instagram (1080 × 1350) and your website in one run

Workflow recipeBy the Updated 1 October 2026

Photographers, illustrators and small shops post the same pictures in several places, and each place wants a different file. Instagram's feed shows 4:5 portraits at 1080 × 1350 pixels; a portfolio or blog wants a larger landscape-friendly copy. Both should carry your name so credit survives a repost, and neither should be your full-resolution original. This recipe makes both versions of every photo in one run, each with the watermark drawn after resizing so it is the same size relative to the picture.

The workflow

You addUp to 20 photos or images

Branch 1

  1. Image Cropper

4:5 portrait, cut from the centre

4:5 is the tallest shape Instagram's feed shows without cropping, so it takes the most room on a phone screen. Cropping here, rather than letting the app do it, means you see exactly what will be posted.

  2. Image Resizer

    1080 × 1350 px

Instagram resizes larger uploads down to 1080 px wide anyway. Sending that size yourself means its own resizing does not soften the picture or the watermark.

  3. Watermark Image

    Your text, bottom-right, 4% size, 60% opacity

A corner mark stays readable without covering the subject. 60% opacity and the default soft shadow keep it visible on light and dark areas.

You set: Type your name or handle in the Text field.

  4. Image Compressor

    JPG, quality 86

Instagram recompresses every upload. Starting from a high-quality JPG at the exact size leaves it the least to undo.

  5. Rename files

    photo-instagram.jpg

Keeps the two versions of each photo apart in your downloads.

Branch 2 · from the same files

  1. Image Resizer

Longest side 2048 px, never enlarge

2048 px fills a laptop screen and keeps the original shape, while staying far below a camera original.

  2. Watermark Image

    Your text, bottom-right, 3% size, 60% opacity

A slightly smaller mark suits the larger picture. Each branch has its own watermark step, so you can also use a website address here and a handle on Instagram.

You set: Type the same text as in the Instagram branch.

  3. Image Compressor

    Quality 80, keep format

A website copy should load quickly. Quality 80 is a good balance for photos viewed on screen.

  4. Rename files

    photo-web.jpg

A clear suffix shows which copy goes where.

You getPer photo: a 1080 × 1350 Instagram JPG and a 2048 px website copy, both watermarked

A measured run

We ran this recipe on 1 October 2026 in a Chromium-based desktop browser on a Mac, with Squoosh’s public demo photograph (3,872 × 2,592 px) and the watermark text “© Toolkitta test” in both branches.

Original2.79 MB3,872 × 2,592 px JPG
Instagram copy282.6 KB1,080 × 1,350 px JPG, quality 86
Website copy347.1 KB2,048 × 1,371 px JPG, quality 80

The 4:5 crop kept the centre 2,074 × 2,592 px of the photo, and the mark landed bottom-right, white with a soft shadow, readable over dark leaves. Both copies together are 23% of the original’s bytes, so neither site ever receives the full-resolution photo.

Choose the watermark text

Use something a viewer can search for: a handle, a short domain or a name. Long sentences shrink to unreadable sizes in a corner.

A corner mark can be cropped off. If that matters more than the look of the picture, open a watermark step, turn on Tile across the image and lower the opacity to about 30%.

How to use the workflow

  1. Select Open this workflow, then add your photos in the Input pane.
  2. Open each Watermark Image step and type your text. The position editor shows a photo, and you can drag the mark if the corner is busy.
  3. Select Run workflow. Check one Instagram and one website result at full size; the 4:5 crop is taken from the centre.
  4. Use Download all, or download each Rename files step's results.

Keep your originals

The workflow writes new files and never changes the photos on your device. Keep the full-size originals; these copies are for sharing, not for archiving or printing.

  • Want a logo instead of text? Switch a watermark to Logo and choose a PNG with a transparent background.
  • Posting squares instead? Change the Instagram crop to Square and its resize to 1080.

Questions

Does a watermark stop people copying my photos?

No. It keeps your name attached to reposts and makes casual reuse less tempting, but anyone can still crop or edit an image they download.

Why do two steps say “Needs settings”?

Each branch has its own watermark, and Toolkitta never makes up a name for you. Type your text in both.

Are my photos uploaded to add the watermark?

No. Cropping, resizing, drawing the watermark and compressing all happen in your browser.
