How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Add one or more PDFs. Each row shows the page count and a preview of the first page.
- Type the text — CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, your name or website — and pick a colour, size, opacity and angle; or switch to Image and choose a logo. Place it with the position grid or tile it across the page, and choose which pages get it.
- Click Watermark, check the preview of the first page, then download one file or a ZIP, or send the results to Compress PDF, Merge PDF or Protect PDF.
What the watermark is made of, and where it goes
Text watermarks are written as real text in Helvetica Bold, so they stay crisp at any zoom and print cleanly. The standard PDF fonts cover Latin letters, digits and common symbols; text with other characters — Turkish İ, ğ and ş, Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic or emoji — is drawn with your browser's own fonts at high resolution and embedded once as a transparent picture, so it shows exactly as you typed it instead of as question marks. The row says when this happened.
Pictures
PNG logos keep their transparency and JPGs are embedded unchanged; other formats are decoded on your device first. The picture is stored once in the file however many pages carry it. Choose Size as a share of the page width — Small is a discreet corner mark, Large spans half the page.
Position, angle and pages
The nine positions and the tile pattern are placed in the reader's view: a scanned page that is stored sideways and rotated by its viewer still gets the mark where you expect. Diagonal is the classic across-the-page stamp; Horizontal suits a header or footer line. Watermark whole documents, odd or even pages, or a list such as 1-3, 7. The mark is drawn on top of the page content with the opacity you set, so the text underneath remains readable at 30 % and is deliberately obscured at 100 %.
What stays the same
Pages are stamped in place, not copied into a new document, so bookmarks, internal links, annotations, editable form fields and document metadata are all kept. Encrypted PDFs (remove the password with Unlock PDF first), XFA forms and digitally signed documents are refused, because rewriting them would break the encryption or the signature. This tool does not remove existing watermarks.

Are my PDFs or my logo uploaded?
No. Reading, previewing and stamping happen in your browser. Files, the watermark text and any picture you choose are not sent to Toolkitta. Keep this tab open until you download the result; reloading clears the session. Website hosting and performance measurement are described in our Privacy notice.
Does a watermark protect my PDF?
No. A watermark identifies a document or its state — Confidential, Draft, Sample, your name — and discourages casual reuse, but anyone with a PDF editor can remove it. If the content must stay private, add a password with Protect PDF; if you need to prove authorship, keep your original. Toolkitta's copy never calls a watermark protection because it is not.
Can I use my logo or a picture?
Yes. Switch Watermark to Image and choose a PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC, SVG or any other format the site opens. A PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result. Size is a share of the page width, opacity and angle work as for text, and the picture can be placed in any of the nine positions or tiled.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Under Pages choose Odd or Even, or Custom and type page numbers such as 1-3, 7. The setting applies to every file in the queue; a file that has none of the listed pages is reported rather than copied unchanged.
Will the text show non-English letters?
Yes. Latin letters, digits and common symbols are written as real text. Characters outside the standard PDF fonts — Turkish İ, ğ, ş, Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, emoji — are drawn with your browser's fonts and embedded as a sharp transparent picture, so they look exactly as typed. The row notes when this was done.
Can I put the watermark behind the content?
Not in this tool: the mark is drawn on top of the page, which is the only way to add to a PDF without rewriting every page's content. Use a low opacity such as 20–30 % and the text underneath stays fully readable, which is how most Confidential and Draft stamps are made.
Can I watermark several PDFs at once?
Yes, up to 20 files, 50 MB each and 200 MB combined, 300 pages per file. The same watermark and settings apply to every file in the run. Download the results one by one or as a ZIP, or send them all to another PDF tool.
Which files are not supported, and what changes in the file?
Encrypted or password-protected PDFs (remove the password with Unlock PDF first), XFA forms and digitally signed documents are refused with an explanation. Everything else is kept: pages are stamped in place, so text, pictures, links, bookmarks, annotations, editable form fields and metadata remain. This is not a watermark-removal, redaction or metadata-removal tool.
