How to adjust brightness and colour of an image

What does Auto fix do?
It looks at each photo's own darkest and brightest tones, ignores the extreme 0.5% at either end, and stretches what is left to the full range from black to white. Dull, hazy or underexposed shots get clearer contrast. A photo that already uses the full range, or one that is almost a single tone, is left as it is.
How do I brighten a dark photo without washing it out?
Move Brightness to the right. It brightens shadows and mid-tones on a curve that keeps pure white white, so highlights do not blow out the way a flat lift would. Add a little Contrast afterwards if the photo looks flat.
Do all images get the same adjustment?
The sliders and look apply to every image in the batch, so a set of product or event photos comes out consistent. Auto fix is measured per photo, so a dark shot and a bright one are each corrected for their own levels before the sliders apply.
Can I turn a photo black and white here?
Set Saturation to −100 for gray tones with your other adjustments. For pure two-colour black and white with a threshold, use Grayscale Image.
Can I use this in a workflow?
Yes. Add Adjust Image to an image workflow or a step-by-step workflow, set Auto fix and the sliders, then chain it with Resize, Compress, Add Border, Image to PDF or other compatible steps and save the workflow settings for later.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Adjusting, previewing and comparing happen in your browser. Keep the tab open until you download your images; reloading clears the batch. Website hosting and performance measurement are described in our Privacy notice.
