Cropping changes each page's visible area without redrawing it, so text, pictures, links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they are. Encrypted PDFs, XFA forms and digitally signed documents are not supported.

How it works

How to crop a PDF

  1. Add one or more PDFs. Every page appears as a card.
  2. Click Trim margins and choose Each page to its own content, or All to the same size for one frame that keeps every page's content. Or Crop pages to drag a frame on a large view of the page, or type how many millimetres to cut from each side. Choose whether the frame goes on this page, the selected pages or every page. A card's crop button, or the C key, opens the same editor for that page.
  3. Check the cards — the part that will be cut is faded — then click Save cropped PDF and download, or send the result to Compress PDF, Merge PDF or PDF to Image.
What cropping changes in the file

Every PDF page has a media box — the sheet — and usually a crop box that viewers and printers show. This tool sets both to the area you keep, and sets the trim, bleed and art boxes to the same area when the page has them, so screen viewers, printers and print shops agree on the new size. The page's text, fonts, pictures and drawings are not redrawn or re-encoded: nothing is rasterized, quality cannot drop, and selectable text stays selectable.

Automatic trimming

Trim margins renders each page small on your device, finds the rows and columns that contain anything darker than paper, and crops to that area with a thin border. Each page crops every page to its own content, so pages can end up different sizes; All to the same size uses one frame, the smallest that keeps the content of every page, so a document keeps a single page size. In the crop editor, Fit to content does the same for the pages the frame applies to. Isolated dust specks are ignored; a scanner's dark edge or a page number in the corner counts as content, so crop those pages by hand. Blank pages are left as they are.

What stays the same

When a file keeps all its pages in order, its pages are changed in place, so bookmarks, internal links, annotations, editable form fields and document metadata are kept. If you also reorder or delete pages, or save everything as one PDF, pages are copied into a new document instead and the Save panel says so. Encrypted PDFs, XFA forms and digitally signed documents are refused up front, because rewriting them would break the encryption or invalidate the signature.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Reading, previewing, trimming and cropping happen in your browser. File contents and filenames are not sent to Toolkitta. Keep this tab open until you download the result; reloading clears the session. Website hosting and performance measurement are described in our Privacy notice.

Does cropping reduce quality?

No. Only the page boxes change; text, fonts, pictures and vector drawings are not redrawn or re-encoded, so the kept part looks exactly as before and text stays selectable. The file size stays about the same, because the hidden part is still in the file. To make it smaller, send the result to Compress PDF.

Is the cropped-off content deleted?

No. It is hidden, not removed: anyone with a PDF editor can make the page larger again and see it. Do not use cropping to remove confidential information; this is not a redaction tool.

Can I crop only some pages?

Yes. In the crop editor choose This page, the selected pages or All pages. Select pages by clicking them (Shift-click for a range) or with Select → Odd pages, Even pages or Pages by number, then choose Crop selected. Each card's crop button opens the editor for that page alone. Pages you do not crop keep their full size.

How does automatic trimming work?

Each page to its own content trims every page separately; All to the same size uses one frame that keeps every page's content, so the document keeps one page size. It treats anything darker than paper as content, so page numbers, headers, stamps and a scanner's dark edges are kept; crop those pages by hand with the frame or the millimetre fields.

Can I crop several PDFs at once?

Yes, up to 20 files, 50 MB each and 200 MB combined, 300 pages per file. Crop pages with All pages applies the frame to every page of every file; Trim margins trims every page separately. Each file is saved separately with -cropped in its name; files you did not crop are skipped. Download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Which files are not supported?

Encrypted or password-protected PDFs (remove the password with Unlock PDF first), XFA forms and digitally signed documents are rejected with an explanation, because rewriting them would break the encryption or the signature. Standard form fields are kept and stay editable when the file keeps its pages in order.
