How to convert an image to another format

- Choose Convert to: JPG for photos you will share anywhere, PNG for graphics with transparency, WebP or AVIF for the smallest files on the web.
- Click Convert, check the size next to each file, then Download one by one or as a ZIP — or send the results to the compressor or cropper.
Quality applies to JPG, WebP and AVIF. PNG is always lossless. If a transparent image is converted to JPG, the transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose.

Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser using built-in codecs; the files are never sent to Toolkitta. Keep the tab open until you download or send your results — reloading clears the batch. Website hosting and performance measurement are described in our Privacy notice.
Which formats can I convert from and to?
In: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF (iPhone photos), AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG, ICO and TIFF, up to 20 files, 20 MB each and 100 MB per batch, at most 40 megapixels. Out: JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. Animated GIF, WebP and PNG keep their first frame only.
Why does my iPhone photo have no file type on Windows?
Some systems do not recognise HEIC and leave the type blank. The converter identifies files from their contents, so a .HEIC file with no type still opens; HEIC decoding is downloaded once (about 2 MB) the first time you add one.
What happens to transparency?
PNG, WebP and AVIF keep it by default; untick Keep transparency to flatten onto a background. JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour (white by default).
Is metadata (EXIF, location) kept?
No. Every converted file is rebuilt from pixels, so camera settings, GPS location and other embedded metadata are removed. Orientation is applied to the pixels first, so photos are not rotated. Keep your original if you need the metadata.
Which quality should I choose?
Start at the defaults (JPG 85, WebP 80, AVIF 60). For photos on the web, 70–80 is usually indistinguishable. For an exact kilobyte target, send the result to the compressor and use Target size.
Is AVIF safe to use?
All current browsers and phones open AVIF and it produces the smallest files, but some older desktop software, email clients and upload forms reject it. Use WebP or JPG when you are not sure what will open the file.
How do I continue in another tool?
Use Send to beside a converted image, or Send all to for the batch, to open the compressor, cropper or Image to PDF tool with those results already loaded. Every session stays available until you reload the page.
Can I convert images to PDF here?
Not in this tool — PDF is a document, not an image format. Convert first if you need a specific format, then use Send to → Image to PDF, or open the Image to PDF tool directly to combine JPG, PNG, HEIC or WebP files into one PDF with page size and order controls.
